Cost Containment

There are numerous significant ways to contain costs associated with BRC’s involvement in a case. In this regard, please consider the following:

  • Using early technical evaluations to develop insight into technical issues for the settlement of a case or to provide a technical roadmap for the preparation of a case for litigation. With such a technical plan, BRC consultant involvement can be more cost effectively managed. BRC offers a Preliminary Technical Assessment (PTA) service which accomplishes these objectives.
  • Competitively bidding various activities/assignments in a case among various technical organizations, even though they may not be involved in the case. Examples include the development of body bucks, the conduct of tests/demonstrations, the development of animations or trial exhibits, and the conduct of mathematical modeling efforts.
  • Minimizing travel costs through the use of telephone conferences, WebEx conferences, video-teleconferences, and other technologies. We have successfully used these alternatives to minimize travel costs for legal-engineering conferences and depositions, when appropriate.
  • When travel is required, reducing costs by block scheduling multiple case-related events on the same trip. This provides an opportunity for travel time and costs to be shared over multiple cases, resulting in lower travel costs per case.
  • Utilizing digital information (e.g., digital photographs and electronic deposition transcripts) when possible. Also BRC has developed proprietary software to facilitate the review of depositions recorded on electronic media and the preparation of page and line-referenced deposition excerpts/digests.
  • Reusing previously developed trial exhibits when appropriate. Over the years, BRC has accumulated an inventory of images which have been used to demonstrate myriad technical issues at trial. These images can be reproduced and even customized at a reduced cost.
